Most people do not have naturally straight or perfectly aligned teeth. They rely on orthodontic treatment, such as braces to correct imperfections and achieve a beautiful and healthy smile. Many people have misconceptions about braces and orthodontic treatment. At Beach Braces, we are here to help clarify some of these myths!

  1. Braces Hurt

Braces should not hurt. They can cause some mild discomfort for a couple of days in the beginning, as the teeth start moving, but not any intense pain. This discomfort is easily dealt with by taking over the counter painkillers.

  1. Braces Are For Children

Braces are for all ages! Age is not a factor for orthodontic treatment. Teenagers are often the most common population undergoing orthodontic treatment, but many adults straighten their teeth too. Early treatment can also be implemented for younger children, before all of their adult teeth erupt. This gives an orthodontist time to track their growth and development, intercepting any problems before they become worse.

  1. The Treatment Takes A Long Time

The duration of a patient’s treatment largely depends on the complexity of the case, and the rate of bone turnover of the individual patient. Each patient is treated on a case-by-case basis.

  1. Braces are Very Noticeable

There are several options for orthodontic treatment, so they don’t have to be noticeable. You can choose clear aligners, or even braces on the inside of the teeth if you want something discreet.
