The holidays are always a fun and exciting time! While they may look a bit different this year, the essence of the season remains the same: to spend time with family and enjoy some time off.
If you or someone in your household has braces, you’ll need to plan ahead so that you can have a tasty holiday treats ready for everyone. Our team at Beach Braces has put together some tips so you can get the most out of your holiday season with braces!

Safe Holiday Foods & Those to Avoid

While candy canes, peppermint bark, and sticky caramel are tempting, if you are wearing braces it is best to steer clear of these treats. Hard and sticky foods can damage braces, causing brackets or wires to break. They are also high in sugar, which makes it harder to keep your teeth clean in between brushing sessions.

Having a well-balanced diet has been proven to help maintain healthy gums and teeth. When selecting holiday snacks and appetizers for your family, consider choosing items such as cheeses, crackers, and fruits and vegetables cut into bite-sized pieces. Christmas staples like turkey and ham are safe choices for your main course. If you prefer beef, make sure the pieces are small to avoid the meat getting stuck in your braces.

Proper Oral Hygiene Routine

Your holiday may be filled with late nights, but it is not the time to let your oral hygiene routine go neglected. Brushing with fluoride toothpaste, flossing, and rinsing with water will help keep your braces and teeth clean and healthy. Need a refresher on good oral hygiene with braces? Change the Colour of Your Braces

Swapping out the colour of your elastics is a fun and festive way to get into the holiday spirit. This year, choose cool colours that are most popular in winter, or go a more festive route; red and green for Christmas, or blue and white for Hanukkah!
