Meet Dr. John Daskalogiannakis (affectionately known as “Dr. Dask”, since very few people can actually pronounce his whole name!) Dr. Dask was born and raised in Athens, Greece. He received his dental degree from the University of Athens in 1990. Wanting a break from warm weather, Dr. Dask then moved to Canada to attend the University of Manitoba, where he received both his Orthodontic Certificate and Master’s (MSc) degree in 1994. Toronto’s SickKids Hospital was the next step in his education, and here he completed a two-year fellowship in craniofacial anomalies. Following this, Dr. Dask spent four years teaching orthodontics on a full-time basis at the Graduate Program of the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands. In 2001, he returned to Canada and has called Toronto home ever since.

From 2001 to 2006, Dr. Dask served as Coordinator of Orthodontics at the Holland-Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital – a rewarding position that brought him great professional and personal satisfaction. However, he chose to leave this facility when he decided to start his own practice in the summer of 2006. In addition to Beach Braces, Dr. Dask works at SickKids and at the University of Toronto. He has been a staff orthodontist at SickKids since 2001, providing care for children with cleft lip and palate and other complex craniofacial anomalies. He is also an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, where he is involved in teaching the graduate orthodontic residents and guiding their research efforts in their pursuit of a Master’s degree in orthodontics.

Dr. Dask is a member of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Cleft Palate/Craniofacial Association, the Ontario Association of Orthodontists, the European Orthodontic Society, and he is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Dask attends numerous continuing education seminars, study clubs, and conferences each year in order to keep up-to-date with the latest and most proven techniques. He has also contributed to more than 30 scientific publications in peer-reviewed orthodontic literature. Further, he is the author of a foundational textbook entitled “Glossary of Orthodontic Terms” (Quintessence Publishing Co, 2000), which has been translated into seven languages.

Dr. Dask really enjoys meeting and interacting with people of many ages and various backgrounds on a daily basis. He feels fortunate and privileged to be able to help his patients improve their quality of life and self-esteem. Dr. Dask practices with honesty, integrity and attention to detail, while making sure that patients feel comfortable and welcome.

Outside of the office, Dr. Dask likes to spend time with his wife, Kim, and their beloved children, Ariadne, Marko, and the most recent addition to the family, little Phoebe. Besides sleeping through the night, he also wishes he could do more scuba diving, playing soccer, cycling, and travelling.
